Janette was born, raised, and educated in Puerto Rico. She completed a BA in Psychology with a minor in Education at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus, and a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology at Carlos Albizu University, San Juan Campus with a strong component on research. She worked as a Psychological Consultant for the public school system and a research center and pursued a parallel fitness career, becoming a personal trainer and fitness instructor for 19 years; currently retired.
Janette came to NYC in 1999 for an internship at the Lutheran Medical Center and worked on a research project with Harvard University on the elderly. In 2000, she started working at South Beach Psychiatric Center, where she has been for the past 20 years as a staff psychologist, Treatment Team Leader, and Deputy Chief. She currently volunteers as the Director of the Critical Incident Response Team for Disaster Mental Health serving state agencies and nonprofit agencies.
Janette is the third generation in service to the US ARMY. With a five-year-old son at the time, she joined the Army Reserves in 2010 and has been serving as an officer for 10 years. From within the state’s missions, she processes soldiers coming in and out from mobilizations, and provides crisis interventions and other psychological services. She volunteers for a special team conducting Psychological Autopsies. Janette served as the Suicide Prevention officer, Family Readiness Officer, and Casualty Assistance Officer for her unit. These experiences anEducationed education within the military through the Center for Deployment Psychology (Uniformed Services University of the Health and Sciences), have helped her to see and understand the challenges that our military is facing, the evidenced-based treatment available, and how it is received by members and veterans of all branches of the military. Her passion is to serve and to find relief for her brothers and sisters’ inner souls. She is honored and excited to collaborate with the talented team at TWC.
In her free time, she volunteers at church and sings in the choir, rides an adult tricycle, spends time with her son, friends and visits family in Puerto Rico.
